Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Alexander couldn't hold back anymore. He kissed Evelyn deeply, his breaths ragged as she whispered softly against him. Their lips collided in a fierce, hungry kiss, their bodies pressing together as desire surged. But just as the moment reached its peak, Evelyn suddenly pushed him away, panting.
"We can't," she said, her voice shaky. "You're a married man now, and Lily's pregnant with your child. I can't be the one to tear apart your family."
Alexander's eyes burned with longing, his voice rough. "Evelyn, I swear to you, I will never betray you. Wait for me. Once I'm truly free, I'll be worthy of someone as pure as you."
He kissed her forehead gently, as though she were the most precious thing in the world. A flash of victory flickered in Evelyn's eyes. She thought she was winning. But I saw it, even if Alexander didn't. The hypocrisy was laughable.
What about all the times she came to me, practically rubbing it in my face that I was just the "placeholder"? She'd even said my kids would call her "mom" one day.
And the whole "I'm sick, I need help" routine, she'd used that excuse to move into my house, knowing full well what she was doing. At dinners, she'd flirted openly with Alexander, and when the house cook made a snide remark about her behavior, she ran to Alexander, claiming that the cook's mistakes made her sick. She demanded he be fired.
I could barely keep anything down due to my pregnancy, but the cook's food was the only thing I could eat. I tried to be kind, offering to hire a new chef for her, but she slapped me hard across the face.
"It's not about the food," she sneered. "It's about knowing who runs this house. There's only one Mrs. Frost, and that's me, Evelyn."
She threw herself into Alexander's arms, sobbing and whining like some heartbroken damsel. She cried about how unlucky she was for not being able to have children for him, how my pregnancy made her feel "lost" and "heartbroken."
"I've tried to avoid you, Lily," she wailed. "But I keep running into you! I can't live like this anymore, seeing you every day with your belly! It's making me so miserable!"
In an instant, Alexander's face darkened. Without warning, he slapped me hard, knocking me to the ground.
"You know damn well that Evelyn can't stand pregnant women!" he shouted. "Why do you have to flaunt that big belly in front of her every day? What's your game here?"
"You're sick!" he continued. "You don't deserve to be a mother. Today, I'm locking you in the attic! Let you see what it's like to suffer!"
Two of his bodyguards grabbed me, throwing me roughly into the attic, the dust making it hard to breathe.
"I'm due today! The doctor told me to go to the hospital!" I screamed, desperate. I clung to the doorframe, my voice cracking.
Alexander smirked. "Nice try. Your due date isn't for another three days. You're just looking for attention."
With that, he slammed the door shut, trapping my fingers in it. The pain shot through me like a knife, but I couldn't speak. My body trembled as he locked the door behind him with a final, satisfied look.
Meanwhile, as Alexander and Evelyn got tangled up in their passion, the butler burst into the room, out of breath, his face pale.
"Madam... she's gone!" he gasped, panic rising in his voice.
"Gone?" Alexander shot him an irritated look, clearly annoyed at the interruption.
The butler wiped his forehead, fear taking over. "The attic... it's full of blood... Madam... she..."
He couldn't finish the sentence.
Alexander straightened his shirt, his face cold as ice. "Blood? She's probably just spotting. Or maybe she's going into labor. Take her to the hospital."
