Chapter 4
Chapter 4
When William and Lucy heard my words, their faces went ashen. The cocky arrogance they'd been flaunting just moments ago vanished in an instant.
"Mr. Leponce," I said, my voice cold but firm, "they acted without care, ignoring the patient's condition and giving out medication without even properly diagnosing him." I hit play on the video, making sure everyone in the room could see exactly what had happened.
"I tried to stop them, but William, using his position to intimidate me, threatened to fire me. That's how this tragedy unfolded. In the end, they're the ones responsible for the patient's death."
Lucy's face drained of all color as the video played. She looked terrified, her head shaking rapidly. "No, that's not true! It has nothing to do with me!" she protested, her voice trembling.
I didn't show an ounce of sympathy. "Nothing to do with you? You were the one who brushed it off as a 'common illness,' accusing me of ordering unnecessary tests just to make a profit. If it wasn't for you, would the patient be dead right now?"
The moment the video finished, the patient's family exploded with rage.
"You! You killed my husband!" one of them screamed, charging at Lucy with wild fury.
If it weren't for the security guards holding them back, Lucy would've been in serious trouble.
With Lucy clearly rattled, William shot me a look full of venom, his fists clenched at his sides. "Tina, are you crazy? What do you think you're going to gain from this? You're just dragging us down with you!"
I couldn't help but scoff at him. He was parroting the same crap he'd said in my past life. Back then, he claimed if he lost his job, his life would be over, but he'd still take care of me if I lost mine. And what happened after? After I was fired, he dropped me like a bad habit, went public with Lucy, and turned his back on me completely. I was the one left alone, the one who suffered the most.
"What do I gain?" I repeated, my voice rising with fury. "How about saving my own ass for once?"
I glared at William, not backing down. "You may be my boyfriend, but this mess is all your fault!"
I threw his words right back at him, and his face darkened further. I could tell he was about to explode, but the crowd around us kept him in check.
"It's fake! That video has to be fake!" Lucy whimpered, her eyes wide with panic as she looked at me like I was some kind of monster. "Tina, I never thought you could be so ruthless, making up a fake video just to avoid responsibility!"
William jumped in, all high and mighty. "Tina, I must've been blind to get involved with you. You've always used your position for personal gain, and now you're framing us just because Lucy exposed you."
I stared at them, incredulous. I couldn't believe how shameless they were. Even with the video right in front of them, they still had the nerve to lie. As for me "abusing my position"? I'd never done anything of the sort. But William? He'd been swimming in dirty deals, taking bribes, demanding kickbacks from reps. Everyone knew it.
I shot him a look of pure disdain. "Who's really been abusing their power for personal gain, William? You know damn well it's you. As for whether the video's fake, let's see if the family believes your lies."
The words had barely left my mouth when the patient's family member broke free from the guards and lunged at Lucy, furious beyond reason.
"You heartless monster!" they screamed. "You killed my husband! I want your life for his! Give me back my husband!"
