Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Logan stormed off in a fit of rage. I placed a hand on my belly, a genuine smile tugging at my lips. I knew exactly how to provoke him. If I wanted to get back at him for the child I'd lost, I couldn't let him off that easy.
After I was discharged from the hospital, I found a job as a children's dance teacher. Being surrounded by kids every day gave me some small comfort. I didn't block Logan's number. After all, he and Rebecca were responsible for what happened to my child, and I was determined to make them pay.
One day, after finishing a class and stepping out of the classroom, I found myself in the middle of a wedding. Balloons filled the sky, and laughter echoed in the air. Then, I saw Logan. He was a distance away, looking a bit uneasy, holding a bouquet of flowers in his hands.
"Fay," he called out, his voice tense, "today was supposed to be our wedding day. If you're willing to start fresh with me, I don't care whose child it was."
The truth was, besides me, no one knew whose child it really was. Logan didn't want to face the truth; he wanted to keep me close, so he chose to blindly trust Rebecca's lies.
I noticed many of my students' parents were watching from the sidelines. As they overheard Logan's words, their expressions toward me shifted, uncertain, maybe even judgmental. Logan's public stunt like this was sure to cost me my job. No one would trust their children to a teacher with such a questionable past.
Whether it was marriage or something else, Logan never cared about what I truly wanted. To him, I was just an object to be manipulated, something he could control.
I stayed silent for a long moment, then reluctantly took the bouquet from him. Logan wrapped his arms around me, his voice low but firm.
"Fay, I'll always treat you well."
The next day, when Logan suggested we go get our marriage license, I stopped him.
"Logan," I said coolly, "Shouldn't you tell Rebecca about this first?"
Logan hesitated, his face flickering with uncertainty. "Rebecca's not doing well right now. Let's take it slow, okay?"
I shot him a cold stare. "Don't you tell your close friends about your wedding? Am I just something to be hidden away?"
