Chapter 8
Chapter 8
When Lucas got home, I was almost finished packing my suitcase.
I thought he wouldn't come back tonight.
I didn't expect him to return so soon.
"Olivia, what are you doing?" He rushed over to me, his eyes locked on the open suitcase on the bed.
"Did you find the child?" I asked, continuing to fold the clothes in my hands.
He didn't answer. Instead, he grabbed the clothes from my hands. "I'm asking you, what's going on? Why are you packing your suitcase?"
I sat down on the edge of the bed, sighing. "Lucas, I've decided to go for advanced training at a hospital out of state. I'm leaving tomorrow."
He looked completely shocked. "Advanced training? Out of state? Why didn't you talk to me about this?!"
I looked up at him, unfazed. "Why should I talk to you about it? Can't I make my own decisions?"
He pushed the suitcase aside and sat down next to me. "No. You can't go."
I couldn't help but laugh at his reaction. "Lucas, on what grounds are you stopping me?"
He replied, looking all too serious, "Because I'm your husband!"
Now he remembers he's someone's husband?
It's too late for that.
I laughed bitterly. "Then let's get divorced."
The moment I decided to leave for the advanced training, I knew I was ready to divorce him. I had been thinking about it for a long time.
He stared at me in disbelief for a long moment, his voice faltering as he asked, "Wh-what?"
"I said, let's get divorced."
"Impossible!" he shot back, grabbing my hand, his eyes red with frustration.
"Olivia, I know you're just angry. Right?"
"You've liked me since college, always chasing after me. How could you possibly want to divorce me?"
"Olivia, I've been trying so hard to consider your feelings. What more do you want from me?"
I waited until he finished, then quietly responded, "I don't want you to do anything. I just want a divorce."
He suddenly pulled me into a tight hug, his voice trembling. "Olivia, how could you divorce me? Do you… not love me anymore?"
I guess so. I don't love Lucas anymore.
