Chapter 8

The assistant was frightened pale.

He hurriedly turned to investigate my whereabouts.

As soon as he left, Ryan came over.

Still with that cold and gentle demeanor from before.

He lightly put his arm around Lily's shoulders.

"What's wrong? Did something happen to Jack? I knew he would be upset about me attending the wedding in his place."

"But today is such an important day for the Parker family. Several company CEOs are here, and the Parker elders are at the scene. No matter how unreasonable he is, he shouldn't be angry with you at a time like this! Lying about a plane crash, he's really too childish!"

"Lily, you've spoiled him too much. I understand Jack. He has no friends here. When he comes to his senses, he'll come back. Don't worry. Your parents are still waiting for you to toast them."

In the past, Lily might have believed his words.

Choosing to wait for me to come back and obediently admit my mistake.

But this time, recalling my unusual attitude,

After a long while, Lily coldly shrugged off Ryan's arm.

"Ryan, I'll remind you one last time. You're just here to attend the wedding in Jack's place. Jack is my husband in name. My parents are not for you to call!"

Beside her, a flash of resentment and unwillingness crossed Ryan's eyes.

Before he could speak, Emma ran up to the two of them.

She gently tugged on Lily's wedding dress.

"Mommy, Mommy, Grandpa and Grandma are calling you over."

"We don't care about that bad man, okay? Emma wants to see Daddy and Mommy together."

Hearing the words "bad man",

Lily's cold expression grew even more unpleasant.

She turned sharply towards Ryan.

"Did you teach Emma that?"

"Ryan, the child is still young. What have you been teaching her?"

"If you don't know how to raise a child, I'll let my parents take care of Emma from now on. Don't interfere anymore!"

With that, she didn't give Ryan a chance to retort.

She turned and walked into the hall.

The news of the plane crash still lit up her phone screen.

Lily's temple throbbed, veins bulging.

On the way from the entrance of the hall to the front,

All around her were guests cursing and looking down on me.

"I heard Mr. Cater is just helping with the wedding. Ms. Parker wouldn't really fall for that cripple from the Carter family, would she?"

"How is that possible? The Carter family moved abroad long ago. That Jack doesn't even have a single relative here. For such a big event as marriage, not even one person from his family came. Ms. Parker must still have Mr. Cater in her heart. This is all according to plan! Did you see how grand this wedding is? I don't believe she didn't plan this in advance!"

"Don't say anymore. Mr. Carter is pitiful too. Crippled in a car accident, and now he can't even have children. He'll just be a useless person for the rest of his life. He was the only young master of the Carter family, and now he's ended up like this..."

With each additional word those people said, Lily's expression grew more unpleasant.

How did it turn out like this?

She had ordered everyone to keep the news of Jack's accident under wraps.

The perpetrator certainly wouldn't have said anything.

As long as the wedding was over, Jack would be her husband in name.

She would live well with him in the future.

Watch Emma grow up.

She would protect Jack well, not letting anyone look down on him because of his injuries.

But why did the news leak out?

She hadn't seen Jack these past two days. What exactly happened during this time?

Did these people say these things to his face?

Was he bullied by anyone?

All sorts of doubts swirled in her heart.
