Chapter 4
Chapter 4
He glared at me darkly.
"Rose, you're pregnant with our child."
"You're just being overly sensitive right now. I can forgive your impulsiveness this time."
I just looked at him coldly, finally speaking after a long pause:
"Jack Wilson, you should know better than anyone whether this is impulsive or not."
Jack's face immediately stiffened. Lily was about to say something, but he cut her off:
"Lily, we need to talk privately. Why don't you head home first?"
Lily wanted to protest, but when she saw the asset division on the divorce agreement, her eyes widened. She was about to curse at me when Jack pushed her out the door.
As soon as she left, Jack's tone softened:
"Rose, I know you're upset that Lily and I have been close lately."
"But believe me, I really only see her as a sister. You'll always be the lady of the Wilson family."
"Besides, what about our baby? You want the child to grow up in a single-parent home before it's even born?"
I didn't respond, just staring at him silently.
"Jack, you don't love me."
"Wouldn't you be happy to divorce me so Lily can take my place?"
Jack immediately tossed the divorce agreement aside.
"How could I not love..."
His special ringtone for Lily interrupted him. Even without looking, I knew it was her calling.
Under my gaze, Jack hesitated for only a second before answering the call. I don't know what was said, but he immediately stood up and looked at me.
"Something happened to Lily. I need to go check on her."
I looked at him indifferently, no emotion in my eyes.
He leaned down as if to kiss me, but I dodged. He awkwardly stood there.
"Rose, I promise after this time, I'll keep my distance from Lily."
But I just picked up the divorce agreement from the floor and said coldly:
"9 AM tomorrow, Women's Hospital OBGYN department. Don't be late."
He kept making promises as he hurried out the door, as if the person outside was far more important to him.
I said nothing, just silently blocked and deleted all his contact information.
At 9 AM the next day, Jack didn't show up after all.
It didn't matter. My parents came with me to the hospital and saw me into the operating room.
The air conditioning in the operating room was freezing, chilling me to the bone. But it wasn't as cold as the instruments entering my body.
I gradually lost consciousness from the anesthesia.
When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital bed.
My parents were by my side. Seeing me awake, my mom immediately burst into tears, holding my hand:
"Rose, does it hurt?"
I smiled and shook my head.
"They gave me anesthesia. It doesn't hurt."
My mom looked like she wanted to say more. My dad had been sitting silently nearby, but after a long while, he finally spoke:
"Divorce! You must divorce him!"
I nodded.
"Okay."
My mom was especially worried about me, afraid the procedure would leave lasting effects on my body.
She brought home-cooked meals for me every day.
Under her careful care, my body gradually recovered.
By the day after I was discharged, I could already get out of bed and walk around on my own. Following the doctor's advice, I slowly got up to take short walks.
My parents were reluctant to leave me, but it was dinnertime.
My mom went to cook, and my dad went to get me some water. I was left alone to slowly walk the hospital corridors.
But I unexpectedly ran into Jack supporting Lily as they walked down the hall.
