Chapter 6
Chapter 6
"Alright. As long as Jack signs this divorce agreement."
"I'll forgive him this time."
Mrs. Wilson frowned, about to reach for the agreement, but Jack snatched it first. He pulled out a pen and immediately signed his name.
"Rose."
"I'll sign it. I'll sign."
"I've signed. Will you forgive me now?"
Looking at his almost begging expression, I smiled as I took the signed agreement from him.
"Okay, I forgive you."
After they had all left, my mom looked at me disapprovingly.
"Rose, do you really want to get back together with Jack?"
"Are you afraid you'll have nowhere to go after the divorce? Don't worry."
"Even if you get divorced, your dad and I can still support you."
I looked at my mom with emotion, tears welling up in my eyes. But I still refused:
"Mom, don't worry. I won't get back together with Jack. I have my reasons for doing this."
My mom wanted to say more, but seeing my determined expression, she finally said nothing.
She just shook her head helplessly.
In the days that followed, Jack really did cut off all contact with Lily as promised.
He deleted and blocked Lily's contact info in front of me.
He started doting on me every day, afraid I would have any problems.
This continued even after I was discharged from the hospital and returned home with Jack to our marital home.
During this time, Lily came looking for him many times, but he always refused to see her.
But I knew he wouldn't be able to hold out for long.
Not long after, it was time for my follow-up appointment.
The day before, I looked at Jack, who seemed a bit guilty, and pretended not to notice as I said:
"Jack, you'll come with me for my follow-up tomorrow, right?"
Jack promised repeatedly:
"Of course, Rose. Don't worry, I'll definitely go with you tomorrow."
I nodded in satisfaction. Then while Jack was out buying groceries, I sent Lily a message:
[Looks like you're not that important to Jack after all.]
[He already promised he'd definitely go to the hospital with me tomorrow. He told me his thing with you was just an act.]
Lily took the bait. After typing and deleting for a while, she finally sent back defiantly:
[Just you wait and see.]
I knew Lily wouldn't let me down.
Sure enough, my gamble paid off.
On the day of my follow-up, Jack didn't show up after all.
But photos of him passionately kissing Lily went viral online.
Jack and I had worked our way up from nothing. Though his family had some money, most of our wealth came after we got married.
In the early struggling days, to boost product sales, we had heavily marketed our love story to promote our brand.
Now, as soon as the photos of Jack and Lily kissing outside an apartment went online, it caused a huge uproar.
Many people cursed Jack for being unfaithful, saying the first person he betrayed after getting rich was the one who helped him succeed.
I didn't pay attention to any of it. I just sent Jack the divorce appointment I had scheduled at the Civil Affairs Bureau.
[9 AM tomorrow at the Civil Affairs Bureau. See you there.]
