Chapter 12
"So, between Mexican food and Chinese food...we somehow agreed on Italian?" Vincent chuckled, giving his parents an amused look.
Rocco shrugged, "She mentioned pizza."
"And I wanted pasta so..." Julie trailed off, her hazel eyes reflecting amusement as well.
I remained silent, stuck in my own little world until I felt someone holding my hand. I glanced at Vincent to see him smiling at me, his eyes holding a look of awe. I couldn't help, but smile back, finding him adorable.
"Can you two stop looking at each other like that? It's gross," Rocco suddenly voiced.
We both laughed as Julie slapped him on the head, calling him an annoying bastard.
Vincent chuckled, "Dad, you always look at mom like this."
"Because she's hot."
"Well, I think Olive is hot."
"Touche son, touche."
Throughout dinner we joked around and talked, but carefully dodged the Dominic subject. Even so, the question in Rocco's eyes had Vincent nervously shifting in his seat, not wanting to share information with his father. I could see his wolf struggling against his father's silent command, trying to the stronger Alpha. However, Rocco is the older one, the more experienced alpha. Vincent's authority was nothing like his father's. At least, not yet, he's still young.
"Vincent," Rocco said softly.
Vincent bit his lip, "Can we talk about this later?"
"You have been avoiding anything about your brother the entire time, I just have one question," Rocco replied, giving Vincent a pleading look. Quietly begging his son to not keep them out.
Vincent knew his parents needed answers, they deserved them, but he's scared. I tried to help him relax and it did work a little, but he was shaking.
"Why did you runaway? If you told me, I could have handled Dominic. That boy was never able to beat me," his father asked.
"Dominic cheats dad, he's skilled with knives, he would have used them on you. He doesn't have to be strong to stab someone in the heart," Vincent explained with a pained voice.
Rocco furrowed his eyebrows, "He would really kill me?"
"Yes. He was determined to become Alpha."
"Goddess, this is some Lion King shit."
Vincent shrugged, "Except I'm the one with the scar on his face."
His voice had bitterness dripping from his words, his eyes darkening a little as he glared at his empty plate. I frowned and gently grabbed his jaw, making him look at me. I didn't say anything except kiss part of his scar and pulling away.
"How about we talk about something else?" Julie suggested.
Rocco nodded, "Like your challenges, you have slowed down a bit in your attacks. Brayden sent me a video like I had requested."
I frowned, "Would it be wrong if I made Brayden our beta? The guy Dominic chose is....lazy."
"You can, after all, new alpha, new beta."
I glanced at Vincent to see him deep in thought, his expression twisted into one of agony.
"Hey, you okay?" I whispered.
He nodded, "I have to get some air."
"Whoa, honey, relax," Julie yelped as Vincent stumbled out of his chair.
We watched him sprint to the exit before Rocco gently clapped his hand on my shoulder.
"He needs you," he said softly.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked, sitting beside his shaking form.
Vincent took a deep breath, "It won't go away."
"What won't?"
"The panic, Dominic is gone, he was weaker than me, but he still gives me nightmares. He was weak physically, but mentally, he was powerful."
I pulled him into a hug and began rubbing his back, "Dominic may have been the Loki to your Thor, but he wasn't as smart as we thought. He tried destroying us, but failed. There has always been one thing that he could never understand."
He frowned, "What?"
"Love."
