Chapter 13
"You okay now?" I whispered, running my fingers through his hair.
He quietly nodded, but didn't move away from me. I smiled at the scene, he was curled up against me, slowly falling asleep. My heart skipped a beat and butterflies made themselves known in my stomach.
"You two ready to head home? Someone looks a bit tired," Rocco chuckled, gently stroking Vincent's cheek with his thumb.
As I watched the affection they showed him, I realized they never showed the same to Dominic. Whenever he attempted to make them proud, he got a good job, nothing else. He was a messed up guy, but maybe this is some Lion King or Thor stuff. I recall being told Vincent was sick as a pup, maybe they always showed Vince more attention. I can still remember our conversation as he died in my arms, he had finally shown someone how broken he was.
"I just wanted s—someone to—care."
"He was truly hurting," Vincent murmured when his parents walked to the car.
I frowned, "You can read what I'm thinking?"
"The bond is getting stronger...but goddess...I didn't know," he sighed. "I know what he did was wrong, but I still wish he had a better ending. Was he in pain?"
I pursed my lips, giving him his answer. He wore a sorrowful expression, his eyebrows furrowing as he seemed to drown in his thoughts. I immediately cupped his face, trying to stop him from thinking too much. I'm starting to realize that his mind is a dangerous place for him. It made my chest tighten, Dominic's chaotic mind was fatal for him, I refused to let Vincent go through the same storm.
He leaned into my touch, releasing a breath as I kissed his cheek. His eyes fluttered close for a moment before opening and connecting with mine.
"I'm lucky to have you," he said in a whispered tone.
"MOVE!"
I yelped as someone shoved us to the ground, stopping two silver arrows from going through our chests. I glanced up at the figure, whoever it was, they were cloaked by shadows. All I could see were two, blue eyes peering down at us. They then focused on the forest, a powerful growl erupting from the silhouette.
"Who the hell—
Vincent was cut off as a dagger was held to his throat, "Shhhh, listen to me. You two need to destroy Alpha Athos before he destroys you."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Who are you?"
His blue eyes flickered to mine, "My identity isn't important. I have always tried to protect you, but I can't do much anymore. I will continue to do what I can."
"You have no scent," Vincent mumbled in surprise.
The mysterious person nodded, "I know, I'm skilled at masking it."
Vincent glanced down at the silver dagger, "My brother loved knives."
"I know, I have watched him, he was skilled. But he wasn't the smartest with them, he was intermediate at most."
"Well, aren't you kind?" I huffed.
"I'm not. I don't care either."
Vincent raised an eyebrow before standing, "Thank you."
The man stared at me for a moment, his eyes narrowed, "You have a hickey."
Ignoring Vincent's grateful words, he sprinted into the darkness. Once I was standing, I attempted to look at my neck by using my phone.
"VINCENT!"
"Would chocolate make you happy?" Vincent asked, closing the door behind me.
"You gave me a fucking hickey! Your parents noticed as soon as we got close to the car!" I snapped.
He smirked, "I was only marking my territory without the whole marking process. I know you're not ready for that."
"Damn straight, but goddess, I hate you!"
"Lies."
I groaned, "You're such an irritating bastard!"
An extremely attractive smile suddenly spread across his lips, causing me to clench my jaw. As he took slow steps towards me, my anger grew.
"Giving me a sexy look won't help you!" I sneered.
He continued walking towards me, that arrogant light sparkling in his eyes.
"Vincent, I swear, if you—
I stopped as soon as he kissed me, his arms wrapping around my body as he pulled me against him. I tried fighting against it, but I eventually melted in the feel of his lips. He pinned me against the wall, moaning as I bit his bottom lip.
"I want you so bad," he breathed, pressing his forehead against mine.
I released a shaky breath, "I'm not ready."
"I know, baby girl, which is why I won't force you. But...I will be treating you to a foot massage, come on."
I laughed as he picked me up and sprinted up to his room, that love filled look never leaving his face.
Anonymous POV
"So, we're going to protect them how?" My partner questioned, her emerald eyes shining with confusion.
I sighed, "I'm going to figure it out. But I can't go near them often until..."
I trailed off as I stared at my necklace, the ruby glowing then becoming dim. Staying in rhythm with the beat of my heart.
"When will we be free?"
I glanced at her, feeling nothing but pity as she slumped against the tree. There's something about her that makes me want to protect her, but I don't understand why.
"I want to return her memories," she suddenly voiced.
I frowned, "What? You stole her memories?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"To help an old friend."
"Why would he need her memories?"
She smiled sadly, "For his plan."
