The Twin

Chapter 34

"Actually, it's quite the opposite," Athos snarled in return.

Layla chuckled, "Seems as if you still have a sense of humor. Now, you must be the family that shunned him. Bravo! You had shattered him more than I ever could, I truly admire your abilities."

Rocco narrowed his eyes at the grinning vampire, his blue orbs darkening, "I may have been an ass to him back then, but not now. If you dare say another word, I will make sure you suffer."

"Oh my, aren't you a sadistic little thing?" She cackled. "Babe, they're beginning to annoy me."

A large man suddenly stepped out of the shadows, his eyes a bright blue as he glared at us. All the myths I heard about them only having red eyes were beginning to lose their truth. Their eyes were only brighter and mirrored nothing but pure evil.

As the man took a step forward, Dominic appeared behind him, watching him. Layla smirked and clapped her hands, excited over seeing Athos killed.

"Who shall I start with?" The man asked.

Layla pursed her lips as her eyes settled on Seraphina, "Her. I can't stand the sight of that whore."

"I see."

With a slight wave of his hand, two more vampires appeared, their eyes a bright emerald color this time. They didn't hesitate to lunge at Seraphina, but Athos quickly caught them by their throats before they reached her. His eyes turned black and his lips curled into a smirk as he glanced at Layla. A dark chuckle escaped his lips before he slammed them onto the ground and tore their heads clean off.

"Pathetic," he spat.

"Mmmmmm...He's strong," Layla cooed.

The male vampire glared at Athos, his jealousy growing like a fire. My eyes flicked to Layla, immediately noticing the devilry in her eyes. I narrowed my eyes, figuring her plan out.

"You're quite the...brat, Layla. Using your fiancé's jealousy and insecurity to manipulate him unto murdering Athos," I voiced.

She snapped her attention to me, I smiled as the rage drowned her previously, happy expression. Her emotions seemed to change as quick as clicking a switch, turning her anger off and on. She took step towards me, causing Dominic to appear behind her now. The silver dagger was held tightly in his hand, ready to slice through her porcelain like flesh.

"How dare you speak to me like that!" She whined. "I am a princess! I am the future leader of vampires!"

"More like the future leader of bitches," Athos growled softly, pushing Seraphina behind him.

Layla turned towards him with a murderous countenance, "I hate you! You ruined my life, my own father was disgusted by me!"

"Well, that's not my fault, sweetheart. I'm a werewolf who did nothing wrong to him, he was a psychotic hunter with no life. So, how is his dickish attitude my fault?" Athos mused, only succeeding in pissing her off further.

Layla clenched her jaw before facing her fiancé, "What the hell are you waiting for? Kill the bastard!"

Before the man could answer, Layla slapped him across the face, "I'll do it myself, you worthless pile of flesh!"

I raised my eyebrows at her abuse, but my mouth didn't speak a single word. When I focused on her next move, I froze.

She smiled as she pulled out the silver gun, "I know how to kill you without actually killing you."

Athos held a confused look until she pointed the gun at Rocco. She didn't hesitate to the pull the trigger right as the silver blade sliced through her throat. I had no time to react as her head slid off of her body and crashed into the ground as grey ash, spreading across the dead leaves.

I heard Julie scream as the bullet made contact with Rocco's body, only to see it wasn't him who fell. My eyes widened when I saw it was Athos, his shirt becoming soaked with his blood as he fell.

"Athos!" My sister cried, falling to his side.

I looked up to see Dominic watching with horror, the shadows completely leaving him as a faint light glowed in his heart.

"Find his body."

I snapped my attention to Layla's fiancé as he glowered at Dominic, figuring out who murdered his future wife. Before any of his servants could move, their bodies were suddenly on fire as green smoke slithered through the trees.

"There will be no further injuries tonight, at least...to the wolves."

"May?" Vincent suddenly voiced, giving the spirit a confused look.

May glanced at him, "I found out I was seducing the wrong twin the entire time. My apologies to you and Olivia. Now, if you don't mind, I have a bonfire to finish."

Dominic frowned, "You mean...you mentally scarred my brother by accident?"

"What? Plus, after he left me on the side of the road, he deserved it."

"Sometimes, I wonder why I love you."

She shrugged, "Beats me."

"Athos?"

I turned my attention back to Athos as he laid on the ground, his eyes wide and face pale. He looked at Seraphina with desperation, he opened his mouth to speak, but only a wet cough came out. My heart fell when I saw the trickle of blood go down the corner of his mouth, telling me this wasn't good. At all.

"S—sorry," he whimpered.

Rocco had tears streaming down his face as he cradled his brother, "Shhhhh, you're going to be okay."

Athos gave him a weak smile before groaning, his back arching from the pain.

"Do you think he can survive magic? May suddenly asked.

Rocco frowned, "Why?"

"I can transport you back to Willow Stone pack. His body is attempting to heal, but that silver bullet is in the way."

"Tr—try it," Athos breathed.

"Are you sure?" Seraphina asked.

"I'll d—die either w—way....wh—why...n—not?"

May nodded and closed her eyes, her mouth moving quickly as she began to mumble words.

"We need a doctor!" My sister screamed as we appeared at the border.

Warriors immediately ran towards us, shouting out orders as they carefully grabbed Athos. His body was limp and his chest was still, but his heart continued to beat. However, I could hear it grow weaker.

"Dr. Haze! Alpha Athos has been shot by silver!" The leader shouted as we burst into the infirmary.

The doctor sprinted towards us, telling them to place him the gurney. Dread was sketched across his face as he began his work.

"He's not even fighting," he mumbled to himself, motioning for the nurses to take him to a room.

Seraphina frowned before grabbing Athos' hand, "Please....don't give up. Please? We all care about you, I care about you. Please? Please, Athos...please....don't leave me."

Rocco and Vincent gently pulled her away from Athos' form so the doctor could save his life. But she continued to fight them, claiming she needed to be by his side. Screaming that she couldn't leave him, not now.

"I'm so sorry," I murmured as I pulled her into a hug.

She sobbed against me, "It's not fair."

"I know, Sera, I know."

"I can't lose him...gods, I can't."

I tightened my hold on her, "He'll make it, he's an alpha."

"But he isn't even fighting to live...he doesn't see the point to living anymore."

I closed my eyes and tried to stop the tears, but I couldn't. She was speaking the truth, Athos had lost his will to live.
