Chapter 35

"Family of Athos?"

We all turned our attention to see the exhausted doctor, his eyes reflecting the burden of a long surgery. Seraphina was the first to go over, pleading him to tell her Athos would be alright. He offered a small smile, trying his best to calm the frantic she—wolf.

"Despite him not fighting, it seemed as though he began fighting to live. His wolf had healed him during surgery, which did make it difficult to remove the bullet. However, Alpha Athos is expected to make a full recovery."

"So....he's going to make it?" Sera asked softly.

"Yes."

Before she could collapse, I quickly caught her, smiling as she cried tears of joy. The doctor knelt before her and clapped his hand on her shoulder as kindness spread across his face.

"He started fighting after you begged him to stay," he whispered. "Whether he decides to open up after or not, he does care about you."

My sister stared at him with wide eyes, attempting to remain calm as he nodded at her. He then stood up and told us to follow him, that Athos should be awake soon. Vincent and I helped Seraphina to her feet before following him through the halls.

"I'm nervous," my sister croaked as we stood before his door.

I chuckled, "You're always nervous."

She rolled her eyes before playfully slapping me on the shoulder. She then took a deep breath and opened the door to reveal Athos, sound asleep in the hospital bed. The heart monitor showed his heart beat was regular, the gentle rise and fall of his chest helped us relax further. Seraphina quickly made her way over and held his hand in her while her other stroked his cheek.

"You scared me, asshole," she mumbled.

"Is he awake?" Rocco whispered, poking his head in.

Vincent nodded, "It's okay to come in, dad."

Rocco hesitated, a frown decorating his face as he stared at his brother. He was right at the entrance with a shameful expression, refusing to enter.

"Dad..." Vincent said softly.

Rocco shook his head, "I don't deserve to."

"If anyone doesn't deserve to, it's mom. She's the one who still hurt him, you tried making up for it. He clearly loves you if he saved you from a silver bullet. I'm sure he would be glad to see his older brother."

Julie frowned, but nodded in agreement before giving Rocco a gentle push. Once he was past the entrance, she turned and walked away with tear filled eyes. Part of me felt bad, but the other part didn't, she didn't try as hard. There were moments where she could have kept her mouth shut or thought about her answers. But she didn't, she continued to say things as if she were oblivious to the pain it caused Athos.

"Julie, where are you going?" Rocco called.

She smiled sadly, "For a walk."

"Hun, I don't think that's a good idea. Layla's fiancé is still at large, if he—

"Rocco, I'll be fine. I just...I know seeing me will only hurt him in the end. It's better if I'm not here when he's up."

Rocco frowned, he wanted to argue further, I could tell. However, he simply nodded, allowing his wife some space. Once she was gone, he pursed his lips and began pacing.

"Dad?" Vincent asked.

Rocco took a deep breath, "I don't want her in the forest alone. Gods, she could get killed."

"Then go out and grab her. The poor bitch can't fight well," Athos suddenly mumbled.

Rocco froze, "I—

"Go. You're not the only one who has a bad feeling."

Athos gave his brother a hard stare before wincing, groaning as the pain made itself known. Rocco quickly kissed his brother on the forehead before sprinting out the door.

We waited a few minutes until we heard the usual bickering of a married couple. Vincent rolled his eyes and poked his head out the door, laughing at his parents. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion until his father walked in, holding Julie over his shoulder.

"Let go of me, you bastard!" She snapped.

"Vince, this is how you handle your woman when she's being difficult," Rocco smirked.

"She's always difficult," Athos voiced.

"True."

"Hey!" Julie snarled.

"Sup?"

"Athos, I swear I will hit you!"

Athos rolled his eyes, "I'll break your pretty little hands first."

During this entire argument, my sister grew more and more upset. When she went to stand, Athos suddenly wrapped his arm around her and pulled her onto his bed.

"No," he mumbled.

She frowned, "What?"

"Stay."

"I am not a dog, Athos."

He smiled a little, "I know...I just want you to stay."

She furrowed her eyebrows, attempting to process his words. Athos chuckled before gently flicking her on the nose, causing her to narrow her eyes.

"So...did you get the closure you needed?" Rocco asked.

Athos sighed, "Yeah...I did. It actually feels great."

"Good...now, we have other matters to discuss. Where the hell is Seraphina staying? I refuse to allow a pregnant woman run around as a rogue."

"She can stay with Athos, he needs a strong female warrior to inspire the women in his pack," Vincent replied.

Athos nodded, "I barely have any female warriors, my men will bully them no matter how much I train them. Someone to inspire them to beat the shit out of my men."

Seraphina frowned, "Have you tried, gee I don't know, being an Alpha and ordering them to stop?"

"Wow...shots fired," Rocco snickered.

Athos pursed his lips before taking the pitcher of water and throwing it at his brother. We all laughed as it spilled all over the other Alpha, soaking his clothes.

"Yes, I have, but I can't order them to change their attitudes or how they were raised. I haven't had the time either."

"Which is why you need to start looking for a Luna, Alphas aren't meant to lead a pack alone. Trust me, your Luna will be a blessing," Rocco grinned as he kissed Julie.

Athos smiled a little, "I'm trying."

"So....Vincent can't survive without me?" I mused.

Vincent snapped his attention to me, "Yes, I can."

"Oh, really? Then why don't I go on a four week vacation?"

"No."

"Why?"

He folded his arms across his chest, "Because."

"That's not an answer."

"He's jealous of other men," my sister teased.

"I am not!" Vincent shrieked.

I chuckled, "I was thinking I could go on the beach...in a nice bikini—

"Mine."

I laughed as he pulled me against him, his eyes dark.

"Thought so," I whispered against his chest.
