Chapter 6

"Vincent?" I called out into the darkened forest, my voice bouncing between the trees.

There was no answer in return, causing the fear to worsen. I took a step deeper into the sleeping woods, my eyes scanning the area around me. I could feel a slight tug on our growing bond, it felt as if someone had punched me in the chest. I didn't think twice before sprinting deeper into the forest, ignoring my thundering fear. My only concern was Vincent, knowing it's not normal for him to not answer.

"Vince!" I screamed, tears threatening to spill.

"O—Olive!"

I turned towards his voice, my heart skipping a beat at the pain laced through his tone. I gasped for air as I stumbled into a clearing, my eyes widening at the sight before me. Lying on the ground with a silver arrow in his chest, was Vincent.

"Oh my goddess," I murmured, falling beside him.

He groaned as I poked the arrow, knowing I'm going to have to break it. With a soothing voice, I quickly broke the arrow before helping him sit up. He leaned most of his weight against me, too weak to support himself further.

"Come on, stay with me," I pleaded, my voice cracking.

He swallowed, "I a—am."

With a loving kiss to his temple, I slowly began helping him. He swayed a little on his feet, but willingly followed me. I swiftly mind—linked a few warriors, telling them to bring a gurney.

"Just a few more feet," I whispered.

He whimpered quietly, stumbling as his knees threatened to buckle. I held onto him tightly, begging the Moon Goddess to let me keep him.

I yelped when he suddenly collapsed, his eyes shut tightly. I began panicking, unable to think straight as my lover faded.

"Vincent!"

I shot up in my bed, gasping for air as I realized I was soaked in sweat. Cringing at the dirty feeling, I quickly discarded my shirt and shorts before kicking them aside. It didn't take me long to find an oversized shirt, so I could go and make sure Vincent was alright.

I ran a hand through my hair, my body still shaking from the awful dream. I hugged myself as I scurried out of my room, needing to see him. I know I won't be able to sleep still, my mind was going insane with the haunting images. I silently prayed that wasn't a memory, knowing he almost died had my heart aching.

"Vince?" I called as I knocked on his door.

It didn't take long for it to open, revealing a groggy Vincent. I didn't give him a chance to voice any questions, I simply hugged him. He was extremely stiff at first, not understanding why I was suddenly being touchy. But he didn't question me, he quietly returned the hug.

"What's wrong?" He asked softly.

I gulped, "I—I had a dream that....y—you had a silver arrow in your chest. Please...don't tell me that was real."

He was silent as he pulled away, his eyes shining with pain. I gnawed my teeth, realizing that it wasn't a dream. It was a memory, an awful one.

He sighed, "I shouldn't have shown you those pictures. I forgot about the times....that weren't pretty."

I immediately shook my head, "No, I needed to see those."

My eyes trailed down to his naked chest, showing off the scar. I gently traced it, ignoring his stiffness, mesmerized by each small ridge. After a while, he gently grabbed my wrist, silently asking me to stop. However, he surprised me by bringing my hand to his lips and kissing it.

"There will be a few painful memories, but just know you can always come to me. I'll explain them to you," he whispered.

I frowned, "Can you explain this one?"

He froze, his eyes flicking to mine nervously. He didn't refuse though, he blew out a shaky breath and nodded.

"We got into an argument and I went for a run...I was attacked by hunters," he explained quickly.

"Hunters? I thought they were extinct," I mumbled.

He shrugged, "They could be now, it was many years ago."

I nodded silently, instantly becoming curious about his scars again. At the sound of his amused laugh, I looked back up.

"Which scar do you want to know about?" He asked.

I bit my lip when, "The one on your face."

He stared at me, but this time, pure agony was reflected through his expression.

"Dominic gave it to me."
